Photos : This week in the vegetable garden week 12

Sowing peas and potting up cumcumbers were jobs for early in the week.

The raspberry patch requires a lot of weeding, a job started this week and hope to finish to a point of only requiring general maintainance.

Sowing early Peas ( Kelvedon Wonder).

Mid march so time to sow some Early Peas. Inch deep drills and approx 20 seeds per 30 cm in a zigzag pattern.

Frost protection for growing Vegetable crops

The crops have started to grow, so wanted to add some frost protection. The 30gms fleece arrived from an online retailer last week. Due the cost of the fleece I want it to last a few years so have been sowing up the edges giving it extra strength, to hopefully increase longetivity.

Sow Salsify Seeds (March - May)

Salsify (Sandwich Island)  - Tragopogon porrifolius, Vegetable Oyster

Salsify is a new vegetable to me, but when I heard it was also called the oyster plant because of its oystery taste when cooked (root vegetable), I couldn't resist buying some seeds.

Salsify is a good source of Vitamin C and potassium.

Seeds sown in drills (will thin when large enough)
